Effects of Anticoagulants on Serum and Plasma* Ivy
نویسنده
چکیده
Information concerning the interaction of anticoagulants with plasma proteins is limited. Chargaff et al. (1) reported that heparin combined with a protein contained in the albumin fraction of plasma, and that the presence of this protein was necessary for the anticoagulant action. It was also concluded that the interaction of heparin and a labile fraction of &globulin was responsible for the elimination of the /3 anomaly of the electrophoretic pattern. The relatively high heparin concentration (0.4 per cent) used by these workers is greater than necessary to prevent clotting. The influence of smaller concentrations of heparin on the electrophoretic pattern of serum or plasma has not been studied. The present investigation was designed to fill this gap as well as to obtain information on the effects of other anticoagulants on plasma proteins.

Osteocalcin concentrations in plasma prepared with different anticoagulants.
We investigated the effects on plasma osteocalcin concentrations of different anticoagulants used to collect the blood samples. Plasma osteocalcin concentrations measured by enzyme immunoassay and radioimmunoassay are influenced by the nature of the anticoagulants used. The most significant difference between concentrations found in plasma and serum was seen with oxalate/fluoride anticoagulant,...
متن کاملThe Effects of Excessive Aerobic Continuous and Interval Training Programs on Plasma Lipoproteins and Serum CRP in Women
Background & Aims: Blood inflammatory factors have been recognized as major risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of two methods of excessive aerobic continuous and interval training on plasma lipoproteins (TC, TG, LDL, HDL, VLDL) and serum CRP in women. Methods: A total of 20 women aged 35-45 years were randomly divided into the two grou...
متن کاملInactivation of Endotoxin by a Humoral Component
The uniformly high potency of citrated plasma as compared with the limited capacity of serum to inactivate endotoxin in vitro was found to be a consequence of the anticoagulant employed in collecting the plasma. Addition of calcium to plasma suppressed the activity of its endotoxm detoxifying component (EDC) whereas the addition of calcium-binding anticoagulants rendered serum comparable to pla...
متن کاملComparative Bactericidal Activities of Blood Serum and Plasma Serum
Rabbit and human plasma can be prepared without resort to anticoagulants by employing low temperatures and non-wetting surfaces. Serum formed after clotting of rabbit plasma devoid of cells and platelets manifests essentially no bactericidal activity on Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, and a strain of Staphylococcus aureus. In contrast, rabbit blood serum exhibits this activity to a high...
متن کاملDifferential stability of therapeutic peptides with different proteolytic cleavage sites in blood, plasma and serum
Proteolytic degradation of peptide-based drugs is often considered as major weakness limiting systemic therapeutic applications. Therefore, huge efforts are typically devoted to stabilize sequences against proteases present in serum or plasma, obtained as supernatants after complete blood coagulation or centrifugation of blood supplemented with anticoagulants, respectively. Plasma and serum are...
